Vision and reality

iScala has a vision of the future for enterprise resource planning (ERP). It's a connected world where systems and people work together to achieve automated trade. We believe that business is becoming global, and it is the globalizing aspect of business that most concerns us. In this environment, we will develop, sell, and support standard software products that automate or eliminate the predictable, complex, and frequently redundant steps of doing business. Thus freed of tedious routine, people can do the valuable jobs - like thinking, creating, building, buying, and selling.

What this means is that we see ERP systems in the future being used for the everyday tasks that a business has to perform, but doing them automatically, the way a human being would if they weren't doing something more valuable. These ERP systems will talk to each other, representing your company to the outside world, doing business, leaving you free to get more business, not process the sales you've already made or move the goods you've already manufactured.

In a world where the reality of ERP systems is that they are often little more than a tool for getting information, how does this vision fit with this reality?

Unlike EDI systems that can achieve some of this, our software applies intelligence to the process, reflecting our customers' accepted business processes for ordering and invoicing - making sure that the right business is done the way our customers want, not the way the technology insists.
